Eat Together

A couple weeks back the lovely ladies of Moonrise Creative asked me to photograph their first (of hopefully many) pop up suppers.  We dined al fresco in an open meadow with amazing food prepared by Chef Castro. The menu included Vancouver Island specialties such as sea asparagus, wild morels and salmon. A wildcrafted herbal vermouth was prepared by the ladies of Gather, who forage and create recipes with wild foods. These inspiring (and hilarious) ladies are doing such great work, I encourage you to check them out!

Martin of Green Island Builders created a beautiful tiny home that housed the Gather ladies during the cocktail hour. I love the idea of having a structure that can easily be moved from one event to the next. It added such a cozy feel to an outdoor space.

Local wines from the island were served by Storied Wines, a company who represents sustainable, family owned wineries. What I loved so much about this dinner was the emphasis on supporting local foods and companies who are devoted to sustainable practices. As the sun set and the night sky shown, guest continued to enjoy not just the food, but the great company that can always be found when you eat together.

Kinfolk Dinner | A Messy Meal

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending and photographing the latest Kinfolk Dinner, A Messy Meal,  in San Francisco. The dinner was inspired by the theme wabi-sabi, a Japanese word centered on the acceptance of imperfection.

Chef Stephen Beaumier thoughtfully prepared our dinner and also taught the techniques for making gnocchi. The room was beautifully brought together by a talented group of women including Katy Elizabeth, Natasha Kolenko and Elle Luna, who created the lunar mural as a backdrop for the event.

Herbal Workshop + Dinner

Herbal Workshop & Dinner

Join Hayley Rosenberg of Nourish Tara Hurst of Tara Hurst Design and Kelly Brown of Kelly Brown Photographer, for a workshop embracing the subtle unknowns that create a memorable autumn meal.

The day begins with a tour of the Horticulture Center of the Pacific's culinary garden.   During the tour we will touch on the health qualities, flavour profiles, pairings, and mystical stories behind the garden herbs.  Following the tour we will each create a 'Bouquet Garni' from the abundance of sage varieties, thyme, rosemary and the garden's bay tree.  Next, a demonstration on creating the perfect autumnal soup stock and how to incorporate the herbs into your fall recipes.

After our time in the garden we will set a beautiful harvest table for dinner. Enjoy a discussion on layering linens, vintage place settings and creative elements to bring to your own table. Our dinner menu will showcase the aromatic herbs in each course and the paired Victoria Gin Cocktail.

Location:  Nourish,  505 Quayle Road, Victoria BC, V9E 2J7
Date: Sunday October 19th
Time: 3pm - 8pm

a day in deep cove

I had the pleasure of spending one lovely day nestled in a beautiful home in Deep Cove, Vancouver Island for a work retreat with my dear friend, Tara Hurst.  Its hard to describe how good this home made you feel. It was dark and cozy, decorated with love and objects of deep thought and personal meaning. When a home has been loved and lived in, you can feel it. As if the walls are not just protecting you from the outer elements but embracing you.

Here are a couple images I managed to make in-between our work day, beach lounge and dinner making.
